Dream Cream
The premise of the game is simple
and straightforward, which is to collect all the specified ingredients. The assets
of the game are well chosen and well designed it matches the title and gives
off a cutesy, girly vibe which is appropriate for its intended target audience
young female children.
There is a nice attention to
detail for the enemies(vegetables) in which their facial expressions show a
frown on their face. I personally would’ve found it weird that these enemies
are smiling, and I can distinguish (at my age of 21) logically that the vegetables
are the enemies, but it might be confusing for younger children aged 4-6 who may
not deduce this from the get-go on the first sight of the enemy.
The background music is
inclusive of this since it gives a flimsy and whimsical feeling, which can be associated
with or is like the typical Disney princess exploring an enchanted forest.
However, the downside to the
game mechanics are the enemies. The broccoli shaped enemies are inconsistent in
size the small ones are easily avoidable with the single and double jump, but
the larger ones are completely unavoidable. For some enemies like eggplants and
the onions (particularly the green leafy part) the shape and characteristics of
these enemies make it virtually impossible to avoid by jumping (which is the
only mechanism to avoid them) so its too easy to lose lives and die. Additionally,
the enemy character movement lags most of the time, and it affects the game
play. I could not complete the game after so many plays.
To make the game better is to make
the enemy characters of consistent size and fix the lag in the back and forth
and increase the height of the jumps. Furthermore a small explanation like a
short panel that explains how to defeat the final boss.
